Just Add Ink 188 - Grunge (Starburst Christmas Card)

Last week I received the latest copy of Stampin' Up!'s Impressions magazine which is sent to all demonstrators.  There was an article in it about the starburst technique which is very popular at the moment.  As soon as I saw how easy it was to make a template, I had to have a go and combine it with the latest weekly challenge at Just Add Ink!
And this is the template I made which is 6x6 size.
Stamps: Gorgeous Grunge, Sassy Salutations
Cardstock: Whisper White, Pool Party, Island Indigo
Ink: Pool Party, Island Indigo, Bermuda Bay
Accessories: Rhinestones, Sponge Dauber, Dazzling Details Silver Sparkle

I then had to have a go using the same template on Designer Series paper, piecing it together.

They both turned out great (and I found another resourceful way of using up retired DSP scraps!), but I prefer the next one as I inked the edges of each individual piece.

Stamps: Word Play
Cardstock: Soft Suede, Baha Breeze, Very Vanilla, Elegant Soiree DSP
Ink: Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Baha Breeze
Accessories: Big Shot, Honeycomb/Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folders, Window Frames Collection Framelits, Dazzling Details Silver Sparkle, Crystal Effects, Sponge Dauber

A Cloudy Pinwheel Card

A friend of mine turned 50 recently so it was time to have a play with some new product and make her a pretty card!
The new pinwheel die is a little fiddly to start with but gets easier the more you do.  It's only $10.95 which is a fantastic price too!
I'm currently working on a double scrapbook layout with the same products so will share that soon.  Inspiration for this card came from here.  The Designer Series Paper and ribbon are from the Sale-a-bration catalogue so are only available until 22 March so get your orders in quick!

Teacher Gifts

The kids have started back at school today and I'm enjoying the day with only Mr 2 at home, and having a tidy house again!

For the teacher's gifts last year I decided to recycle two lovely shaped coffee packet boxes into works of art, from this:
 To this:
I filled them up with Cadbury favourites chocolates, yum!

Heartfelt Inspiration

I recently attended the fabulous Stampin' Up! Heartfelt Event in Auckland.  I was blown away by the Inspiration Boards that Demonstrators could contribute to for all to see (and take photos of : )  ).

This card was my offering to the board.  I call it my "Subtles Rainbow Iris-Fold Inspired" card!  (Me and my rainbows again...)

For the sentiment I scored a diecut from the new Window Frames Collection Framelits in the Holiday catalogue then adhered it to the card so that it popped up.

Can you also see the scoring I did with my Simply Scored?  It's called Diamondswirl and is a paving brick pattern.  I was doing a little surfing around and found this:
...and thought I'd have a try with one or two on my Simply Scored and Diagonal Plate.

A Tasteful Rainbow

I've got a thing for rainbows at the moment.  Perhaps it's because my daughter loves to draw them and screams out the window everytime she sees one!  Perhaps it's because I just love the colours!

Anyway, I came up with an idea how to incorporate rainbow colours into a layout and was very happy with the result.

I started with a 12"x6" piece of Basic Black cardstock, and rubbed my glue stick all over it.  I then stuck on 6"x1" strips of cardstock.   Then ran it through the Big Shot with the Tasteful Trim die.  Voila!

This is a technique I will use again and have lots of other combinations I'd like to try, i.e. Designer Series Paper, Monotones, Subtles on Whisper White, Regals on Very Vanilla, different dies, etc, etc.  It's also great for using up scraps.

Stamps: Word Play, God's Blessings, Calendar Alphabet & Numbers
Cardstock: Basic Black, Whisper White, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzleberry
Ink: Basic Black, Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Tempting Turquoise, Rich Razzleberry
Accessories: Big Shot, Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die, Labels Framelit Die, Designer Buttons (Brights), Jewelry Tag Punch

Just Add Altered Art...

Further to my post from yesterday, I thought I'd enter this month JAI Scrapbook Challenge as well: Altered Art. I'm hoping they don't mind me entering with my "made the page first then had it framed" entry!I made this page recently as I really wanted a way to display my children's school/daycare photos and be able to change them easily each year. I chose neutral colours, only adding brighter colours for each child's initial. I then had it framed so the glass was slightly off the page and also able to open at the back. I was very happy with the result!

The photos aren't the best sorry, I had trouble photographing it because of the glass on the front.

JAI Scrapbooking Challenge

This month it's all about holiday photos. I haven't printed summer holiday photos yet so my son's joint birthday/weekend away will have to suffice!
I had lots of fun using markers to colour the stamps. I recently bought the set Summer Splash from the Summer Mini Catalogue after wanting a decent "beach" themed set for a long time. This ones got it all: surfboards, fish, bucket and spade... And I've used them all on this double layout.
This layout on SCS was my inspiration.Stamps: Summer Splash, Word Play
Cardstock: Basic Black, Marina Mist, Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black, Marina Mist & Crumb Cake Markers
Accessories: Scallop Edge Border Punch, Linen Thread

I cut all my circles using the Creative Memories system but you can do the exact same thing with the Stampin' Up! Circle Scissors Plus.
